The image above is a screenshot I have taken from one of the episodes I have edited for the Virtual Home Workout series. The Curtin Sports and Recreational Services started making workout videos to encourage students to work out at home after the pandemic outbreak.
Colleague/friend Marvin and I on set
It felt like a test. The task to film was given and entrusted to my colleague/friend and I alone. Being a media student as well, I was surprised that there was no storyboard or script to work with. At the gym, we met Mr Riz. After communicating, it seemed like a neglected project. So, I decided this is the chance for us to colour our creativity onto this.
Behind the scenes
When I got back to the office, I took the initiative and asked if we could edit the videos as well. We were more than welcomed to. It was very interesting to mash up knowledge from both my majors, screen production and public relations. The purpose of it being public relations for the university, with the process of a media student. Does that make sense?
Used to using the iMac, I was used to using Final Cut Pro. Neither my laptop or the office computers were Apple, so I had to learn and wiggle my way through learning a new editing software, Adobe Premiere Pro. We had to make separate versions for YouTube and Instagram. I thought it was a great personal project for us interns. Remember, initiative takes us a long way!
