Let’s face it, one of the hardest things to cope through during the pandemic of 2020 other than the virus itself, is trying to make sure your pantry doesn’t run out. At the beginning of COVID-19, people were hoarding food as if it was a zombie apocalypse. You go as far as the furthest supermarkets in Miri, the basic ingredients for food ran out quick.
However, a little backup plan for the future (in case of a zombie apocalypse) wouldn’t hurt anyone. What I’m about to share are some tips on alternatives where you can stock up your groceries nearby the Curtin accommodation or at your fingertips without going to the supermarkets.
#1 Senadin Carpark Market Stalls
From 3pm - 7pm, a variety of wet market stalls are lined across the parking lots at the Senadin shop lots nearby to Curtin’s off-campus accommodation (in front of Nam Leong and SuperSave). These local products such as vegetables and fruits are extremely fresh, it could be homegrown or handpicked from the mother nature’s garden. These wet market stalls play a game of tic tac toe too, you might find something seasonal or different than usual if you’re visiting on different days.
#2 Local Convenience Stores
These local convenience stores are located at almost every corner of a row of shop lots. Being a foreigner, the first thing that comes to mind for a convenience store should probably 7-Eleven right? Yes, besides there’s a 7-Eleven nearby the off-campus accommodation at Senadin shop lots, there are also a few local convenience shops there, though they may not look very fancy but they have more than what you can find in a 7-Eleven. They have a great variety of fresh vegetables as well as a selection of poultry!
#3 Online Grocery Shopping
Last but not least, online grocery shopping! JS Fresh Supply offers a range of vegetables to be bought online and delivered to your doorstep. You may request for an English translation from the seller or your local friends. Feel free to contact their WhatsApp business account, +60 18-976 1555. Delivery charges to Senadin is RM4. And that’s the end of it! I hope that these tips may come useful. Now, worry less, and focus on your studies!
