THE LATEST GOSSIPS. PR INTERN ED.

No, this blog would not be anything like Gossip Girl, xoxo. In fact, if you have seen this show, you know how damaging or the impact gossips/rumors can be and may bring. This blog here, will be addressing similar issues faced where I intern. Throughout my time interning for my university, one of our major tasks is media monitoring. Media monitoring is a great way for any organization to improve the effectiveness, in this case, the communication amongst our stakeholders. Our primary stakeholder being the students.

Rumors are bound to occur and go around within any organization. This is where in public relations; we must look for any internal problems to resolve when an official complaint comes in. However, a Facebook account was created last year under the name “John D”, along with other anonymous accounts. Rather than an official complaint, the anonymous comments makes slander remarks. Unfortunately, it works. It is proven that social media brings about positive and negative impacts to an organization, even overnight (UK Practical Law, 2018).

Hopefully this blog is not too depressing! I just feel the need to raise awareness on this issue. To not take whatever we see or read online providing no credible source and take it all in as facts. To encourage people to do their own research and fact-check. A funny example is watching Jordan Klepper to interviewing Trump supporters at a Trump Rally: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzDhm808oU4.

As a PR person, raising awareness could not be as direct as a blog post as I am writing now. One of the things that was done was a webinar. I personally would suggest physical engagement among staff and students like an annual event with attractive activities and a variety of food festivities. Unfortunately, Covid-19 happened. What I can do during my time here as I am also a student ambassador, I will continue doing what I am doing by communicating and helping out current and future students. At the same time, giving back to the Curtin community among both white-collar and blue-collar employees through communication and helping them out in my means.
